An electrician is a tradesman specialising in electrical wiring and fittings. Work undertaken may involve construction of new building or maintenance of existing electrical infrastructure. In most countries electrician is a regulated trade for safety reasons, requiring qualification and registration. Most countries require electricians to serve an apprenticeship lasting from 3 to 5 years under the general supervision of a Master Electrician and the direct supervision of a Journeyman Electrician.

In British and American slang an electrician is sometimes referred to as a "sparky".
